The NHS charities National COVID-19 URGENT APPEAL launched on Monday by NHS Charities Together reached over £15million within its first 5 days.
The appeal supports hospital staff and volunteers at the frontline caring for Covid-19 patients.
Thank you to XTX Markets for launched the appeal with an amazing £10million donation. ‘XTX Markets commented: “COVID-19 has put the NHS under immense pressure and ‘NHS Charities Together’, as the umbrella organisation for all NHS charities and specifically their Covid-19 campaign, are playing a crucial role in getting funds to where they are needed.’
The biggest donation from an individual family is an amazing £5million from the Rausing Family. Huge thank you to Julia and Hans for this significant contribution. Julia and Hans Rausing commented ‘All its staff and volunteers within the NHS are making huge sacrifices every day to care for those unwell and we hope our donations inspire other to support these national heroes and provide vital support for those in need’
Supporters on JustGiving have also raised a whopping £165,997 as of 7pm on Friday 27th March. Thank you to everyone who is fundraising on that platform from ‘MOVID-19’ to ‘COVID-CUTS’ to ‘Barry’s virtual Barrython’ to ‘the Friends Quiz – the one where we all self-isolate’ and #CovHead-19 Challenge. You are all doing an amazing job providing vital support to NHS staff and volunteers caring for COVID-19 patients.
Amazing fundraisers on Virgin Money Giving include the brilliant ‘Thank you Flags’ by TV director Louise Hooper (Cold Feet, Vera) who gave our very first donation when we launched on VMG. And Blair Gorman and his #ThePeoplevsCovid19 emergency fund which he launched today.
Ellie Orton, CEO of NHS Charities Together said ‘This is a phenomenal start to our appeal. We are so grateful to everyone who is fundraising and donating, both big and small. You are making a huge difference. One week in with very little publicity we’ve made a fantastic start towards our ambitious £100million target. NHS staff and volunteers up and down the country have our support and we will reach that target for them.’
The Appeal is run by NHS Charities Together, which is the national charity allowed to receive charitable donations on behalf of the NHS. NHS Charities Together represents 140 member NHS charities throughout the UK. Funds raised will help support the health and wellbeing of NHS staff and volunteers supporting COVID-19 patients and support the NHS in ways above and beyond that which core NHS funding can ordinarily provide.
