Nereis' story
Running to give back to the NHS
Nereis is taking on her first half marathon at the Great North Run this September to support NHS Charities Together.
Having received NHS care and physiotherapy throughout her childhood and into her teens, Nereis is fundraising to give something back to the NHS staff whose care and dedication helped her grow in independence and confidence.

Nereis' story
“I was born with a limb disability caused by the umbilical cord having wrapped around my right arm, stunting its growth. Therefore, I was in and out of hospital for check-ups, scans and physiotherapy up until my teens, so that doctors could help me grow up with as much mobility in my arm as possible.
The care, patience and dedication of NHS staff have played a huge role in helping me live as independently and confidently as possible, and I am now able to do things I thought were impossible.
When I was looking to do the Great North Run, I really wanted to raise money for a charity, and NHS Charities Together seemed like the perfect one. This will be my first half marathon, so being able to raise some money and give a little bit back to the NHS is the icing on the cake for such an achievement.”
