Brighter Days Are Coming.

William's story

Running to say thank you to the NHS

William is taking on the Great North Run this September to support NHS Charities Together.

Following a life-changing experience and the care he received from NHS staff, he’s fundraising as a way to show his gratitude and give something back to the people who helped him and his family when they needed it most.

William's story

“At Christmas in 2024, I became unwell and was rushed to the A&E department at King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Whilst there, I suffered a cardiac arrest in the early hours of Christmas Day morning, which resulted in my heart stopping for four minutes. Undoubtedly, without the incredible work and quick thinking of the NHS staff, I would not be here today.

I then had a prolonged spell in the critical care unit at the hospital, where the staff worked around the clock under the most challenging of circumstances. At the time, hospitals across the country were full to bursting with patients, but the care that I received could not have been better. It goes without saying that my family and I are eternally grateful to the doctors, nurses, therapists, physios and numerous other people who provided me with such crucial care and kindness when it was needed most.

Since such a life-changing event, I have been determined to give something back to thank the NHS staff for not only saving my life but giving my children (Ella and Harry) their dad back. I previously did the Great North Run in 2023 and absolutely loved the experience, so it seemed like the ideal way to show my gratitude. I can’t wait for race day and am hoping to beat my time from three years ago while, more importantly, raising as much as I can for this magnificent cause."
"Thank you so much for all the donations that I’ve already received. They have been greatly appreciated!”
