What will you thank the NHS for?

Jackie’s story

A record-breaking fundraiser

Jackie was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer when she was 32 and didn’t think she would see her 40th birthday. Yet she was determined to keep as active as possible whilst raising vital funds for NHS Charities Together to say thank you to our incredible NHS.

Jackie has taken on a range of different endurance challenges over the years to raise money for charities close to her heart, including:

  • Running the London Marathon in a ten-person London bus costume

  • Trekking 100km across the Sahara Desert

  • Breaking a Guinness World Record for the longest static cycle class.

It’s now been more than 10 years since Jackie was first diagnosed. Since then, she has raised over £150,000 for her chosen charities and is a true inspiration to all those who know her.

“When my diagnosis was confirmed, I was determined to do something positive and that is exactly what I went on to do.”

Why Jackie chose to support us

“The reason I raise money for NHS Charities Together is simply because the NHS saved my life. I’ve had pneumonia, long-term asthma, my leg rebuilt and breast cancer. The NHS has been by my side every single step of the way. I want to give money back to enable other people to have the same experiences and opportunities and the same love, attention, and care that I have had.

“Within those NHS walls are people who genuinely care about people and anything I can do to improve the situation of their lives and support an institution that keeps people going every single day, I will.”
