Emily’s story

Raising money and awareness
Emily was just nine years old when she developed long Covid and was left unable to walk. After spending 14 nights in hospital, Emily started to learn to walk again and wanted to do something to thank the amazing NHS staff who had looked after her.
She set out with the aim of completing 17 laps of her garden, not only to raise funds for NHS Charities Together, but to also raise awareness of long Covid in children. After setting a fundraising target of £100, Emily ended up completing 120 laps of her garden – including an entire lap unaided - and raised an incredible £10,675!

“I never thought I would be able to do it and raise that much money. I’m so happy I did because it will now help the NHS and I really want that to happen.”
Why Emily chose to support us
“I was inspired from being in the hospital after the amazing care I received from the staff. They did so much for me, and I wanted to do something for them. I wanted to raise money as well as awareness of long covid in children as not many people think about it.”
“There are over 150,000 children in the UK who have long covid and are not recognised for being poorly because there is a lack of understanding and research.”
