Daniel's story

Raising funds across the channel
Daniel took part in the Paris Marathon in memory of his mum and to thank the NHS for the care it has given him and his family.
After becoming ill in late 2014, Daniel was diagnosed with PSC, a chronic liver disease, and told he only had 18 months to live. The only way to stop the disease progressing was to have a liver transplant.
Thankfully, exactly one year later, a match was found, and Daniel was able to have the life-saving surgery.
He was safely discharged a month later and made it his mission to be as healthy as possible by eating well, regularly working out and taking up running. He even started volunteering at the hospital where he was treated, sharing his experience with other patients and offering them a sense of hope.
Now, ten years later, Daniel feels he has been given a second chance at life and has fundraised in a variety of ways – from climbing Snowdonia to skydiving.
Why Daniel chose to support us
“So many of us have benefitted from the NHS's services, including myself and my mum who had diabetes and sadly died during the pandemic. Running the Paris Marathon has been my way of giving back.”
