Running to honour a life dedicated to the NHS
Claire is taking on the London Marathon in 2026 to support NHS Charities Together. After losing her mum in December 2023, who dedicated her life to the NHS, Claire is running in her memory and to honour the staff who care for patients every day.
Claire's story
"In December 2023, my world changed forever with the sudden passing of my mum.
She dedicated her whole working life to the NHS, a job she truly loved and excelled in, right up until illness meant she had to stop.
Running has been a big part of my life for many years. I’ve completed marathons and even an ultramarathon, but the London Marathon has always been the one I’ve dreamed of. She always supported my running (albeit from the sofa!) and was so proud of every finish line I crossed.
This year, I was lucky enough to be offered a charity place with NHS Charities Together, and in 2026 I’ll finally get to run it in honour of my mum, my friends who work in the NHS, and all the amazing staff who give so much every single day.
The NHS is facing some of the most challenging times in its history. Donations to NHS Charities Together support patients and staff across the UK, improving services and helping the NHS go above and beyond.
This marathon isn’t about setting a new record, it’s about running with purpose. Every mile will be for my mum, for the people who cared for her, and for everyone who relies on the NHS.”
