What we do

We’re improving experiences for both patients and staff across the NHS, and we’re breaking down barriers that make it difficult for people to access services and live healthy lifestyles.

United in our mission to transform health and care across the UK

We believe that everyone should have access to the best possible healthcare. But right now, that’s not happening. People are living longer, with more long term and complex health conditions, and the NHS is becoming increasingly overstretched. This means that too many of us are finding it hard to access vital services and we’re not getting the same opportunities to live well.

We work with a network of over 230 local and specialist NHS charities across the UK to break down barriers to access, ease pressure on the NHS, and improve healthcare experiences for patients and staff.

We do this in three ways

  • We raise money and make grants to local and specialist NHS charities – funding projects that support NHS patients, staff and communities across the UK.

  • We bring decision makers, partners and NHS charities together to help tackle some of the biggest challenges facing the NHS, using our national voice to influence change.

  • We help the wider NHS charity sector to develop and grow, supporting them to maximise their own impact in their communities.

NHS Staff

By providing practical and emotional support to our incredible NHS staff and volunteers, we are ensuring their mental health and wellbeing is supported, so that they are better able to care for us.

Communities

We help communities thrive by providing people with the knowledge, skills and tools to lead healthier lifestyles and respond effectively to crises – taking the pressure off the NHS.

NHS Patients

We’re creating better patient experiences by supporting projects that improve care and make healthcare spaces feel like more welcoming environments.

Our story

We began as a membership organisation back in 2000, under the name Association of NHS Charities. Our purpose was to support the hundreds of NHS charities across the UK through training, advocacy and networking – helping them to have more impact for the people they serve.

In 2018 we changed our name to NHS Charities Together, and when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020 we launched the first ever national appeal for the NHS - raising over £160 million.

The Covid-19 pandemic may be over, but the NHS is still under more pressure than ever before. So we continue to raise money, fund projects and work with the healthcare sector so that we can help the NHS to thrive, and ensure everyone has the very best healthcare.
