Here at NHS Charities Together, we continue to be blown away by the range of fundraising challenges our supporters are undertaking for our Urgent Appeal. The idea behind Covid Cuts is that, given everyone is stuck at home and unable to go to a barber or hairdresser due to lockdown, people have their hair cut at home and donate the money they would usually have spent to our appeal.
The organisers have an ambitious fundraising target to raise £1million and have a plan to make it go viral.
The Covid Cuts Challenge has four key steps:
1. Cut hair
2. Share a pic
3. Donate the cost of your cut
4. Nominate others
The idea of Tom Larsson, Covid Cuts has already attracted the support of people up and down the country including celebrities Oti Mabuse of Strictly Come Dancing and Greatest Dancer who cut her husband Marius’s hair, and comedian Jack Whitehall.
Tom said: “I wanted to set up something that would allow people at home to raise money for the NHS. Both my parents worked for the NHS, so giving back is core to us.
“I tried to find a way people can give back but also have fun and solve a really funny practical challenge specific to self-isolation – cutting your hair!
“This is not just about lads shaving their head (although welcomed!). We are getting good uptake from families, ladies cutting their fringes, people cutting their pet’s fur; and this is exactly what we want, inclusive family fun. We don’t mind how bold the cut is, as long as people engage, have fun, and donate for our NHS!”
