The Countess Charity has been working with their clinical colleagues to decide how to spend the grant money provided by our appeal, to make a real difference for their patients and staff at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Due to Covid-19 visiting restrictions, many patients risk feeling isolated during their stay in hospital. To combat this, The Countess Charity has purchased new radios for their wards. This is benefitting patients by spreading the joy of music, keeping them up to date on news and keeping them entertained.
Hazel Brizell, Deputy Ward Manager (ward 51) said:
“I just wanted to say a big thank you for the radios we have received today – the staff are already setting them up for the patients.”
The charity has also used some of its grant money from the Urgent Appeal to purchase mobile phones for wards. This means patients can receive calls from the comfort of their bed and help stay connected with their loved ones. This is vital not only for patient wellbeing but also for their families’ wellbeing knowing they can keep in easy contact with their loved one.
The new radios and mobiles were made possible thanks to the generous donations to our appeal. These gifts will make a real difference to patient wellbeing so that patients can stay well for longer and get better faster.
Urgent Appeal Grants
Grants given to NHS charities are used to meet the immediate and urgent needs of patients, staff and volunteers. Funding is also going towards helping partnerships outside hospitals, such as hospices, community healthcare and social care, making sure patients leaving hospital have access to the care they need to recover. In the longer term it will also fund programmes to help staff and volunteers recover fully once the crisis has abated, reducing the long-term impact on them and the people they care about.
